Were TLS 1.0-1.2 all unticked under internet options->advanced?

Making changes to the modem affect all the machines in the house, otherwise you'll need to update the MTU on every PC.

Just a little detail on the MTU change people are doing.

1. Needs to be done on your PC
2. The MTU setting is a cap for the size of each packet/segment of data you can send to the other end (your ISP)
3. Changing from 1492 bytes to 1400 bytes, just shrunk the size of your data packets.
4. If your computer wants to send packets with more data than the MTU size, it will break it up into smaller 1400 byte segments (this is called fragmentation)
5. Fragmented packets are a pain to deal with on the network (especially if there are packet drops/congestion/large jitters between sender/receiver), and should be avoided (hence lowering the MTU value)

  • If one of those fragmented packets are lost (can be caused by a congested or unstable network) the entire chunk of data is useless and needs to be retransmitted.
  • fragmenting/reassembling packets takes up valuable resources on the routers (can be dropped if the router is under a lot of pressure already) and adds delay to the traffic

Your issue sound most like network congestion to our platform. Check your ISP's status page to make sure there are no scheduled maintenances.
The issues in this thread is about not able to log into client at all.

Hi all

We have been following the situation with regards to players having problems logging in.** Based on your collective reports, it looks like it is mainly affecting TPG users,* and only happening at certain times of the day. This indicates that there are likely capacity problems on a connection somewhere between TPG and League.

We'd like to encourage players who are experiencing issues with login from TPG to file a ticket with TPG tech support. Explain that you are one of many TPG customers unable to log in to League of Legends and give them as much detail as possible on the dates and times where it does and doesn't work.

Best Regards

Hi all,

I wanted to follow up my earlier posts with an update that should explain a bit more about the what and why of this particular issue.

Yesterday security researchers from Google identified a significant security bug in SSLv3, a protocol used by older internet browsers like Internet Explorer 6.

Many major online service providers have opted to disable support for this obsolete protocol due to the severity of this security bug, including Cloudflare.

We leverage Cloudflare in various parts of our service including the login system, so when they rolled out this emergency change, players using outdated versions of IE6 ran into issues logging into LoL.

So far we've found that only a small minority of players are impacted, and so we think that we'd like to keep Cloudflare's change and encourage players to update their internet browsers.

We apologize that this caused login issues for some of you, but hopefully this explains why swift action was required.

We are aware that many other online services (e.g. Twitter) have followed a similar strategy and stopped supporting SSLv3 as well, so we believe that you should level-up your browser to keep up with the ever-changing interwebs.

Best Regards,
Mindstar

Kaydee,

While it sucks that you are having issues like this, they do not sound like they are related directly to the issues in this thread. This particular issue prevents some players from logging in to League of Legends at all.

I'd suggest that you get in contact with Player Support (you can open a ticket by clicking on "Support" at the top right of this page), and they can help you work through any potential issues that might be causing your connection problems.

Cheers

Hi,

According to the Internet Explorer system requirements, you should be able to support IE8 even with a 32-bit machine. I don't have an XP box handy, so I can't test it myself.

Have you tried the IE update site?

Hi Summoners,

At the moment, we are receiving reports from players that they are unable to log in.

The solution we have seen working is to update to the latest Internet Explorer for your version of Windows, then reset your Internet Explorer settings. To reset your settings, open an Internet Explorer window -> Go to Internet Options -> Advanced Options -> Reset.

Following that, then try League again.

Let me know here if you have any questions.

Hi all,

I'd like to apologise for not replying sooner, however I want to let you know we are aware of the issues that you are seeing, and doing whatever we can to get to the bottom of it. As pointed out by many, there is more than just the XP/IE6 issue affecting players, and from the reports and support tickets we are seeing, it is centred around particular ISPs.

We have performed a thorough investigation of our servers and service, and so far we have been unable to find any smoking gun. All signs at this stage are pointing to some kind of intermittent connectivity problem between some ISPs and our platform.

We are continually monitoring this and will let you know as soon as we find out more.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to chime in here. Hippalus noted in a Q&A:
"Yes I think Championship Riven will come back someday. Most limited edition skins took four years to come back after release, and it's been two years for Riven so far."

Source: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com...mment=00350002

Hopefully you guys can see the benefit of releasing limited skins again. But it's mainly for players that for one reason or another missed out on getting the skin when it first came out.

"Every day we receive heartfelt emails with compelling stories from players asking for the chance to own or gift their favorite skin, either because they missed the brief store window due to travel, illness, deployment, etc., or because they hadn’t joined the LoL community yet."

You can find the full article about limited edition skins here: http://oce.leagueoflegends.com/en/ne...-edition-skins

Hey guys,

We'd like to give you a heads up regarding some updates to our EULA and TOU - i.e. the walls of text you zoom through when registering an account or downloading the client.
Essentially, these updates are entirely positive for players, with a focus on calling out the full extent of your rights and powers when it comes to things like account notifications and refunds. For example, we've updated the description of notification requirements when we make changes to the TOU / EULA or take action against accounts for behavioural reasons or the use of third-party programs. There are also some additions aimed at more specifically detailing your legal protections and refund rights.

You can always review the current TOU and EULA here and here. Let us know below if you have any questions and we'll be happy to answer.

Update to ranked rewards Riot Socrates

Hey all,

In our previous messaging around the end of the season, we announced the rewards players could earn when ranked play in the 2014 season comes to a close. The next step is going a little more into detail about how you can earn those rewards.

You’ll earn rewards based on your solo queue tier when the season ends and the tier your highest-ranked 5v5 teams are in at the end of the season. You can earn unique summoner icons for each queue (solo and 5v5), but for teams you must have won at least ten games with that team in each specific team queue.

Season rewards are intended to not only recognize great individual play, but also positive sportsmanship and success in a team game. As a result, the most negative players who are also Chat Restricted at the end of the season will be ineligible to earn ranked rewards such as the loading screen borders or Victorious Morgana champion skin.

While the overwhelming majority of players will not affected by this ruling, we wanted to message it well in advance so that any players concerned about their behavior have more than enough time to adjust and reform before the end of the season.

Benji, are you willing to get our region some international gigs?
It'd be great to see a team from Oceania at these events however these events aren't designed for training, they're designed for competition. Sending teams overseas to scrim other regions would be a better alternative (for this problem at least), but it is not an adequate solution. It's very expensive, it's very short term and in the end it doesn't raise the overall skill of the region. One team gets some knowledge for a week or two, but it would be better if every team had this avaialble and for 52 weeks a year. The solution here is to simply create more competition. With more opportunities for teams to compete and win, with more players committing more time, as a result we see the skill growth that we need.

Quote:
i dont understand why our top challenger teams can't wrap their head around what makes these LCS teams so good, and mimic what they do until they start beating teams like TSM etc...
Teams from the big 5 (NA, EU, KR, CN, TW) and we're starting to see Brazil as well are able to live in team houses and train 8-15 hours a day. Yes their learnings make it easier for us to improve, but our players train for perhaps 3-5 a day. They can mimic all they want, but when you copy something, you don't pick up all the learning and knowledge that came with figuring it out. Eventually our players will receive the support they need to close the gap, but this is a situation where it is a lot easier said than done.

I work part time as a software engineer at Suncorp and attend uni full time in my third year. I pretty much play league as much as I can (usually a few hours a night) in between all of this. As much as I'd like to make a living off of lol I don't see it happening in OCE anytime soon so I'm just enjoying it while I can as I love the competition. I definitely see us as contenders to be the Oceanic Representatives at WildCards next year.
I think it is a little far off to claim that. As mentioned above, team commitment will need to continue to raise as we develop our professional scene here, and whilst a few hours a night might be enough now, in a year time they might not be enough to remain competitive. I also disagree with players making a living off lol, I honestly think that it's simply a matter of time. I don't know how much time, but the potential is here.

You raise some great points.

LCS is pretty fun, I enjoy watching it, but it didn't pop up overnight. This is a link to the Season 1 World Championship to show how far we have come: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMTI1kYG4h0

Back then the players didn't live in team houses, or play professionally, it was a hobby. As time went on it developed slowly in to what you see today, and we are working hard to do the same here.

You talk about how we are simply behind in skill, and that's a fair point. What about NA compared to Korea? Korea have had an amazing eSports scene for the last 15 years or so, and are way more developed than the rest of the world and it shows. Does Champions make LCS less entertaining? I don't think so. Does this mean we can never catch up, and we will always be years behind NA/Korea? No, Korea and NA have paved the way and we can learn a lot from the growth of their eSports scene and can develop our scene faster by some of their learnings.

Like you mentioned, if you are interested, follow or watch the local players you are interested in. Because they are local it means streams and events will be at a time easier for you guys to watch and if you are really interested you can actually come and visit a live event and watch in person, which could be a little harder to do for LCS or Champions events.

We are working hard at developing the scene here, but it takes a lot of work and unfortunately time as well. I admire your passion for the scene, despite the size, and its people with your attitude that make the future brighter for our local eSports scene.

Just a quick tip maybe create a Facebook event page or something similar where players can ask questions before and during the tournament!

Also make sure you get the players to read the Xfire wiki, as it may be the first time some players are using the Xfire tournament platform.

Once again guys, thanks for submitting your information to these tools, it helps us immeasurably to see where issues are actually hitting you, and what we can do to help you out!

I was considering that, but I did test with a few different browsers and AV programs and didn't run into any major issues.
But I will keep that in mind and look at some changes if required.

Summoners,

We have been collecting data from the Network Diagnostic Tool thread, and I wanted to share what we have learned so far. Thank you to the 200+ summoners that have submitted a report.

The data helped us identify various areas we can improve the quality of service for you.

The most reported issue (27%) is related to the firewall issue after champ select, and 87% of those issues were players using TPG as their Internet Service provider (ISP).

This isn’t to say we aren’t looking at players on other ISPs, but this was the most prominent to start with. We were also able to identify a large portion of players that were having lag issues and we have looked further into why that is occurring.

Based on feedback and the reports we have analyzed from the first tool, we have made improvements and implemented Version 2.0 (http://oce.leagueoflegends.com/tools/network-logs).

Here is a deeper dive into some of the data:

  • Approximately 27% of all submissions were related to firewall issues after champion select and from that 27%, 87% were all related to players on TPG.
  • A further 27% of the total reports received were related to lag issues
  • The remaining 46% were for various issues such as disconnects, login errors, etc.

Firewall Error after Champ Select

With a large amount of players reporting from the same ISP, the Live Services Team at Riot OCE are working with TPG to implement a solution we believe may resolve this issue. In saying that we do know things don’t always go to plan and work exactly as predicted so once everything is in place, we will be monitoring our proposed solution carefully to keep track of its success.

Lag related Issues

Lag is an ongoing point of contention, with many online services, that we are continually working to improve. Throughout our analysis of your trace routes, we found some great information to assist you in further troubleshooting.

Firstly I would like to give a little context into what a trace route is and what we are looking at.

What is a trace route and what should a normal trace look like?

I’m glad you asked!

A trace route is a way to display the network path your internet connection takes when going from your computer to a particular server, for example League of Legends game servers. This tool also measures the delay, in milliseconds, that a packet takes to get to each cross road (or hop) in the path and back to your computer. The higher the time the longer it takes and as such the higher chance of lag.

Now what does a normal trace route look like? Below is an example of a trace route with a normal route path.

Tracing route to 103.240.226.249 over a maximum of 30 hops

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms router.belkin [192.168.2.1]
2 13 ms 13 ms 12 ms syd-sot-ken2-bras4-lo-20.tpgi.com.au [10.20.22.74]
3 13 ms 13 ms 13 ms 202-7-214-138.tpgi.com.au [202.7.214.138]
4 17 ms 17 ms 15 ms 203-29-129-133.static.tpgi.com.au.129.29.203.in-addr.arpa [203.29.129.133]
5 20 ms 15 ms 14 ms 59-100-203-73.syd.static-ipl.aapt.com.au [59.100.203.73]
6 18 ms 17 ms 17 ms lag41.sglebinte01.aapt.net.au [202.10.14.199]
7 * * * Request timed out.
8 * * * Request timed out.
9 * * * Request timed out.
10 * * * Request timed out.
11 * * * Request timed out.
12 * * * Request timed out.
13 * * * Request timed out.
14 * * * Request timed out.
15 * * * Request timed out.
16 * * * Request timed out.

The “Request timed out” does not necessarily mean there is an issue; it simply means the routes at each of those hops is setup not to respond to your request.

The first hop in this trace is the connection from your computer to your home router. This should be less than 1ms (<1ms). From the second hop onwards you are (generally) out on the internet, so the time it takes will increase a little. As you can see by the information above we are hovering around the 13ms mark for each hop, reaching a maximum of 18ms in hop number 6.
This trace route is great and the player should have no issues regarding lag.

So what does an abnormal trace route look like?

Well to be honest it will look very similar with the exception of some of the hop times.
For example:

Tracing route to 103.240.226.249 over a maximum of 30 hops

1 1 ms 1 ms 2 ms BoB.iiNet [10.1.1.1]
2 359 ms 362 ms 362 ms nexthop.wa.iinet.net.au [203.215.5.243]
3 455 ms 420 ms 458 ms ae7.cr1.per1.on.ii.net [150.101.33.120]
4 434 ms 420 ms 469 ms ae1.cr1.adl6.on.ii.net [150.101.33.36]
5 420 ms 472 ms 439 ms ae4.br1.syd7.on.ii.net [150.101.33.34]
6 445 ms 498 ms 479 ms ae0.br1.syd4.on.ii.net [150.101.33.14]
7 * * * Request timed out.
8 * * * Request timed out.

As you can see from the trace route above the first hop looks fine, less than 1ms to the route. Awesome! However once we get to the internet we start to see some issues. Hop 2, shows a large increase in time, 359ms and it just goes up from there.

What does this actually mean? To be straight up front, it means the time it takes a packet of data to go from your router to the ISPs first connection (or hop) for you is a long time, which is not good, especially when you’re trying to play games.

Another example:

Tracing route to 103.240.226.249 over a maximum of 30 hops

1 7 ms 99 ms 98 ms BigPond.BigPond [10.0.0.138]
2 198 ms 32 ms 30 ms 172.18.212.5
3 892 ms 720 ms 710 ms 172.18.69.117
4 28 ms 29 ms 30 ms 172.18.117.161
5 28 ms 35 ms 29 ms 172.18.117.170
6 29 ms 30 ms 30 ms bundle-ether4.cha-edge901.brisbane.telstra.net [203.50.44.40]
7 30 ms 30 ms 32 ms bundle-ether6.cha-core4.brisbane.telstra.net [203.50.11.140]
8 398 ms 184 ms 47 ms bundle-ether11.ken-core10.sydney.telstra.net [203.50.11.72]
9 42 ms 48 ms 47 ms bundle-ether1.ken-edge902.sydney.telstra.net [203.50.11.97]
11 46 ms 46 ms 46 ms ten-1-0-0.bdr03.syd04.nsw.VOCUS.net.au [175.45.72.73]

When you look closer you will see the very first hop from the computer to the internal router is nearly 100ms. This is an extremely long time to go from your computer to your router.

Now that we have a general idea of what a trace route is and what we are looking for I wanted to share some statics we found from the reports we received and a quick check list you can do to help diagnose the problem.
  • Refresher on the stats - 27% of all the reports we received were related to players getting lag.
  • Of that 27%, 56% of the reports are players getting high latency from their computer to their own router, before they even got to the internet. (The example just above this)
  • The remaining 44% can be broken down to various ISP and server related issues.
  • What can you do to help diagnose where the problem is?
  • So we have a few quick little tasks you can do to help find where your issue lies.
  • Make sure you don’t have any downloads or uploads running. This uses part of your allocated bandwidth and as such congests your connection.
  • Restart your computer and router. At times both of these devices can get overloaded and just need to be cleared up.
  • Complete a trace route to 103.240.226.249 and take a look at the time it takes for your data to reach:
    1. Your router - If this is high you have something causing high connection times inside your home network.
    2. The different hops in the route path – High hop times could indicate the route your connection is take co
uld be experiencing issues. This could be an ISP related problem or a bad path.
  • If you are using wifi - connect with a cable to see if this improves the situation
  • Disable any proxy or VPN service you may be using.

Now that all the technical information is out of the way, I wanted to thank everyone that has reported an issue using the Network Diagnostic Tool. All the information provided has helped us identify constant points of pain and work towards solutions.

With that being said I am taking this opportunity to close down version 1 of our tool. It was a good, simple little form but in all honesty it could be better.

We are now using an updated version here: Network Diagnostic Tool 2.0(http://oce.leagueoflegends.com/tools/network-logs).

This new tool has a small group of questions to answer and a network diagnostic script (for PC and MAC) that will gather various pieces of information, in an effort to assist us in resolving your pain.

We love hearing your feedback, so please leave a comment below, ask questions and the Live Team will be around to help out.

How would you want this information displayed? Like...just a big wall of skin cards? Show icons of each champion with a 4/8 type thing underneath?
